Luther's church in what is now Lutherstadt.

Bronze doors which include a tribute to Luther's 95 thesis. These take the place of the doors Luther used to post his work. The originals have long since been destroyed by fire.

Dinkelsbul is a cute alternative to Rothenburg and less touristy. Also much smaller.

Southern Germany: Hohenschwangau.
Neuschwanstein is like the Matterhorn, you can't take to many pictures of it.
Like the Cinderella castle at Disney World|Land, Neuschwanstein is not really a medieval castle. It was built in the late 1800s.

Hohenschwangau keeps the peace.

None of the postcards we saw had all of that scafolding!

Not only do the Germans get glassy lakes reflecting snow capped mountains, there are swans as well.

Beware of old, naked skinny dippers. You never know when they'll be out (even on an overcast day like this!)
Dachau was extremely depressing.
The buildings left couldn't begin to describe the horrors that took place there.
Even in Dachau, artisans put time into their work. In spite of the utilitarian design and implementation of this room, the hooks in the beam on the upper left have almost a decrative finish.

Hallstatt
Because of the lack of space, bodies buried in Hallstatt only remain in the ground for 10 to 15 years before the plot is reused. When their time is up, they get moved to the bone Chapel, and the name and date of death is painted on each one.
